Dorgu becomes eighth Danish Red

Patrick Dorgu became only the eighth Danish player to represent Manchester United during his debut against Leicester City on Friday.

Dorgu, 20, was one of two winter additions acquired by the Reds, alongside former Arsenal defender Ayden Heaven.

Patrick made his maiden bow for United in our 2-1 FA Cup success against the Foxes, playing the entirety of the first half before being replaced by Alejandro Garnacho.

The former Lecce man won 100 per cent of his aerial duels and also boasted an impressive 82 per cent passing accuracy in his 45-minute cameo.

Dorgu's Danish heritage also stood him in good stead, meaning he now joins just seven other former players from the country to have played for Manchester United.

Midfielder Jesper Olsen was the first to do so back in 1984 after moving from Ajax. He won the FA Cup with the club and enjoyed four years at Old Trafford.

Next came defender John Sivebaek who made 34 appearances for the club. His debut came in 1986 during a 1-1 draw with rivals Liverpool.

Third in the list is arguably our most-famous Dane, the one and only Peter Schmeichel.

The legendary goalkeeper won five Premier League titles at the club and is still widely regarded as one of the best shot-stoppers to have ever played for United.

Striker Mads Timm was with the Reds from 2002-2006 but only mustered one senior appearance. He spent time out on loan at Norwegian club Viking and also with EFL outfit Walsall.

Rasmus has been honoured for his achievements throughout 2023.

Another goalkeeper, Anders Lindegaard, became the fifth Danish player to play for United when he made his debut in 2011, during our fourth-round FA Cup win over Southampton.

Lindegaard made 29 outings as a Red but failed to solidify a place as a first-team star at the Theatre of Dreams.

Our list is complete with two more Danish players who currently still play for the Reds under Amorim to do this day.

Christian Eriksen joined as a free agent in 2022 and has won both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup during his spell.

Rasmus Hojlund was the most recent Danish addition to have adorned United colours, before Patrick chalked up number eight just a few days ago.
