Amorim's update on Reds pair
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim says Mason Mount is the sort of character the club needs, after the midfielder was forced out of the action in the first half of Sunday's superb 2-1 derby victory over City.
As the midfielder looked visibly upset while making his way off the pitch, players from both sides offered their support and it is clear the hope is that his luck will change in the very near future.
Speaking to official broadcasters after the game, Amorim also disclosed that Noussair Mazraoui, who was replaced in the second half, is also a fitness worry heading into Thursday night's Carabao Cup quarter-final at Tottenham.
When asked why he headed for the tunnel on the final whistle, Ruben replied: "It's more the problem with Mason and Nous. You think right away, you go in the tunnel and think right away because we have a lot of games, you know. We need to continue to win and it will change if we don't win the next game."
Amorim: We believed we could win this game
Ruben Amorim says mentality made the difference, as we came from behind to win the Manchester derby...
When asked how big a shame it is for Mount, as he looks capable of shining in Amorim's formation and system, the boss was clear about the high regard he holds him in.
"Yeah, he really fits our style," said Ruben. "He will continue to fit because he's a very good player. Also, outside of the pitch, he is the kind of character I want in this team and we want as a club in this team.
"He has a movement, it's not like something he made a sprint. He made a movement and stretched his leg and felt something.
"It's bad luck, nothing with the problem of the body of Mason Mount. It was a bad movement and he is going to recover because we need him."
Mazraoui, who has displayed versatility in addition to his quality since signing in the summer from Bayern Munich, operated as right wing-back during the sweet triumph at the Etihad Stadium.
November's Player of the Month played with his usual mix of aggression and assuredness but was withdrawn in the 78th minute, as part of a triple substitution, with Antony taking his place.
