Rome Emperors Invent The Best New Celebration In The Minors
During the offseason, the Rome Braves became the Rome Emperors.
It was a slam dunk of a rebrand. The club’s previous name displayed its strong ties to the big league Braves, but made it hard to have an identity of its own, and when it comes to merchandise sales, who is going to buy a Rome Braves hat instead of an Atlanta Braves lid?
The new nickname served a dual purpose. The Emperors alludes to the city name (Rome), but the mascot is an Emperor Penguin, which is quite apparent on the logo.
And those ties to penguins have given birth to this truly different, wonderfully unique celebration whenever an Emperor player does something worth getting excited about.
Home run props and in-dugout celebrations are great, but the waddle is the newest and arguably the best celebration in the minors.
