  Track Record: Johnston had a productive three-year career at Gonzaga where he hit .312/.387/.515 with 46 extra-base hits and 69 RBIs in 109 games. He was taken in the 17th round of the 2019 draft and signed for $125,000. Though Johnston is older than the prototypical prospect, he has carved out a nice professional career. He had a productive 2021 campaign in which he hit .300 with 27 doubles, 15 home runs and 85 RBIs between Low-A Jupiter and High-A Beloit. In 2023, Johnston had a breakout year and slashed .307/.399/.549 between Double-A Pensacola and Triple-A Jacksonville. He set a new career high with 36 doubles, 26 home runs and 116 RBIs and was perhaps the best hitter in the Marlins system.
  
  Scouting Report: Johnston stands straight up in the box with a slightly open front side, his right heel in the air, and wiggles his bat horizontally over his back shoulder. He has plenty of natural strength and physicality in his 5-foot-11, 205-pound frame. Johnston has above-average bat speed and a beautiful lefthanded stroke in which he extends extremely well through the baseball and does a nice job generating torque. He does big-time damage to all fields and consistently gets the ball in the air. Johnston does chase at times, although his 2023 strikeout-to-walk ratio was respectable. Johnston has an above-average pure hit tool with plus raw power. He is limited to first base defensively, but his productivity at the plate will offset any defensive concerns.
  
  The Future: Johnston is expected to compete in spring training to be the Marlins 2024 opening day first baseman. If he doesn’t break camp, he will start the season in Triple-A Jacksonville with a big league callup on the horizon.
